The Concert on the Green Music Scholarship competition was held Monday night April 20, 2009 at the Orange Park United Methodist Church. The Competition was coordinated by Mrs. Diane Combs who is the music director at St. Johns Country Day School and Organist at the OPUMC. Twelve students who are residents of Clay County were chosen for the competition based on results of auditions held earlier on April 18th. Three students competed in the junior division and 9 in the senior division. This year, for the first time, the Concert on the Green Committee started two winning tracks for scholarship winners in the senior division - a vocal division and an instrumental division. Starting in 2009; scholarships will be awarded to 3 top winners in the vocal division and 3 top winners in the instrumental division. This will give our talented young people in Clay County and our Clay County schools a greater opportunity for music education funding!! The 2009 Young Artist Scholarship Winners are listed below:
All of the winners will receive a monetary award at the Concert on the Green that can be used for music education. Fleming Island High School and Douglas Anderson School will also receive an award towards their music departments! |
